We told the press: "Nine days to make a difference!"

Last week, we told you about the Board of Supervisors' "straw vote" to underfund our schools by $38 million. Over the weekend, an incredible number of you sent the Board compelling messages about the importance of investing in our schools.

On the afternoon of Monday, March 24th, I held a press conference with other leaders from our community calling on the Board of Supervisors to reconsider last week's "straw vote" at
their upcoming meeting on April 2nd and to invest in the needs of our schools. Here's a picture from the event:

At the press conference I was honored to speak alongside:
  • Lorraine Hightower - a parent and Mountain View PTA President whose organization passed a resolution supporting a fully funded budget.
  • Bruce Smart - a former Under Secretary of Commerce in President Reagan's Administration and business owner who believes it's our moral and patriotic duty to fund public education.
  • Jeff Dunn - taxpayer, voter, and LCPS teacher who has had to deal with the negative effects of underfunding on a day to day basis in the classroom.
As I said last week, this fight is not over. LEA is organizing a 'Day of Action' around the April 2nd meeting so the Board can make no mistake about how serious we are on this issue. Can you join us? Click here to let us know.

The meeting starts at 4:00 PM with a section for public comment set to start at 6:00 PM. It is likely that the Board will make a final decision on the budget prior to 6:00 PM. Whatever decision they make at the start of the meeting, we will take the podium during the public comment section to tell them that their actions did not go unnoticed. I hope to see you there.
